Mitchell Storage & Distribution (MSD) is a multi-award-winning, family-run transport, distribution and warehousing business based in Leicestershire.

Our story began in 1996, when founder and owner William Mitchell, Managing Director, started the business from humble beginnings as a courier and same-day haulage van driver.

With a strong work ethic, an understanding of what customers really needed and a determination to provide a reliable, personal service, William – Managing Director, steadily built the foundations of the business that MSD is today.

Thirty years later, William, Managing Director, remains a very active figure within MSD, overseeing the business alongside the second generation of the Mitchell family, who now hold senior management positions within the company. He remains immensely proud of how the business has grown while retaining the family values and customer-first approach on which it was founded.

From One Van to a Nationwide Distribution Business

MSD began life as Mitchell Transport in 1996 before becoming Mitchell Storage & Distribution (MSD) Ltd in 1998.

William, Managing Director, initially operated as a courier and same-day haulage van driver, personally providing time-critical transport services for customers. As the business and its reputation grew, MSD moved into its first depot premises and became part of the nationwide parcel network NCN.

This marked an important stage in the company’s development, allowing MSD to expand beyond dedicated courier and haulage work into nationwide parcel distribution.

Years of experience in time-critical transport, networking and distribution provided the foundations for the next major chapter in MSD’s growth: palletised freight distribution.

We regard MSD as number one for value and service because our aim isn’t simply to compete on price. We believe in delivering genuine value for money through reliability, flexibility, personal service and long-term customer relationships.

Our scale and volumes provide significant buying power through the nationwide parcel and pallet networks with which we work. Wherever possible, we pass those efficiencies on to our customers.

By combining nationwide distribution with our own transport and warehousing capabilities, customers can work with one trusted logistics partner rather than managing multiple suppliers.

Our services include nationwide pallet distribution, parcel distribution, dedicated and same-day transport, UK and European haulage, secure warehousing, trailer loading and unloading, pick-and-pack operations and dispatch.

Customers can also monitor the progress of consignments through our tracking systems, while regular users can benefit from integrated software and support from the MSD team.

Still a Family Business

Despite three decades of growth, MSD remains proudly independent and family-run.

Founder and owner William Mitchell, Managing Director, continues to oversee the business today, working alongside the second generation of the Mitchell family and an experienced team who share the same commitment to service.

For William, Managing Director, seeing the business progress from one man providing courier and same-day haulage services to the transport, warehousing and nationwide distribution operation it is today is a source of enormous pride.

But being a family business means more to us than having the Mitchell name above the door.
